Schools

A wide ranging choice of schools

Maidstone boasts some of the top performing schools in the country and is poised to benefit from two new state-of-the-art Academies, due to open from autumn 2010.

In 2009, Invicta Grammar School for Girls topped the national league tables for the highest points score per pupil at GCSE level and was placed 6th in Kent at A Level, with 73% A/B grades. The school has recently won Languages Specialist Status and has a heritage of international working, with links as far afield as the Far East.

This outward-looking commitment to modern foreign languages is mirrored at Maidstone Grammar School and New Line Learning Academy, the latter of which is a national award-winner for the teaching of Mandarin Chinese and co-partner in a £62 million new education campus shared with the Cornwallis Academy.

Science and technology also have an established pedigree within Maidstone schools. St. Simon Stock Catholic School is an accredited CISCO Academy ‘ICT training centre’ and Maidstone Grammar School for Girls has a long history of excellence in science teaching and now offers students GCSE Astronomy and Open University modules such as Genetics and Medicine.

Careers guidance and links to Universities are also particular priorities for local schools committed to forging links with local business and higher education providers.

In 2009, a total of 7 Maidstone secondary schools performed above the benchmark national average for GCSE results:
