Housing
and house hunting in Maidstone
In a survey carried out by the Royal Bank of Scotland, Maidstone was voted the second best place to live in the UK. It has a variety of housing available to suit the needs of first time buyers, families and the wealthy looking for bespoke one off properties.
Many of the hundreds of new apartments overlooking the river Medway have achieved architectural design awards for their stylish contemporary approach to modern living. Nearby Coxheath has a Homes and Communities Agency backed mixed use scheme of exemplar low carbon development. The 150 unit scheme was built by Crest Nicholson and is the only development in Kent and one of just 20 nationally to be awarded the Building For Life Gold standard. Maidstone riverside has the Blue Quarter eco-homes and recently there have been proposals for Code Level 6, zero carbon housing.
Country and village living are all within a short distance of the town. To the north, the park and ride services make the short commute into town very easy.
Maidstone Borough Council has a target to build 11,000 new homes over the next twenty years and policies to provide “good quality affordable homes for all”, by encouraging the best of public and private sector provision.
