£3.7m Museum Extension On Track

03 September 2010

Maidstone Museum and Bentlif Art Gallery’s new East Wing is beginning to take shape; the latest investment in Maidstone’s cultural and visitor economy. The foundations and groundwork have been completed and the steel shell is now clearly visible.

With a new entrance opposite Fremlin Walk shopping centre and 30% more gallery space (including national standard facilities for temporary exhibitions), the extension will transform access to important Japanese, ceramic, local and natural history collections to be displayed some for the first time and enjoyed in a contemporary building incorporating purpose-built research and separate learning rooms that will build new links with the community. Currently, just 3% of the museum’s collections are on display at any one time.

The total investment of £3.7m has been supported by a £2m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

For more information about the museum’s plans, events and sponsorship opportunities, please visit the museum’s website or Facebook page.
