24 November 2010
The Stanley Cornwallis Building on the Kent Showground at Detling is being transformed to meet the needs of a modern conferencing and meeting centre
The 1 million investment will be able to host events from small business meetings of 10 people to large scale events with 1,000 seats. It is the first phase of a multi-million pound redevelopment. The second will be a £6 million upgrade to the Kent Pavilion. During the Kent County Show the carpets will be stripped out and the building used to house livestock.
The Centre is being funded by a the Kent County Agricultural Society and a £500,000 25 year bank loan. KCAS chairman George Jessel wants the new complex to be the centre of choice for event managers. The first booking has already been made and other enquiries have been received.
