Study Reveals Positive Perceptions Of Maidstone

21 September 2010

Results from the 2010 Perception Study, commissioned by investment promotion agency Locate in Kent, reveal that the preferred business town in Kent was Maidstone

with 20% of respondents choosing the county town. It was closely followed by Ashford with 18% and Kent Thameside (Dartford and Gravesend) with 13%.

The study was undertaken by Kent-based Facts International during June and July 2010 and allows results to be compared with previous studies in 2003, 2006 and 2008. It gathered data from 300 respondents which included businesses who have and have not considered Kent, business journalists, institutional investors, developers and advisors in the commercial property sector. The findings will be used to refine the messages given out by Locate in Kent and Maidstone Borough Council to potential investors and businesses.

61% of respondents rated Maidstone as a ‘very good’ or ‘fairly good’ business location and gave reasons for this including its proximity to London, good transport links and motorway access and being a good location generally.

Maidstone Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Cllr Malcolm Greer said: “I am extremely pleased that independent business people have rated Maidstone as their preferred location in Kent. Promoting prosperity is the council’s top priority and we will seek to build on such positive perceptions and Maidstone’s status as a natural growth point.”
