UCA and Mid Kent College - Positive about the Future

28 January 2011

"The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) and Mid Kent College are exploring a range of collaborations at their Oakwood Park campuses in Maidstone.

Mid Kent College has expressed an interest in acquiring excess teaching capacity on the UCA site, as part of its planned capital developments at Oakwood Park.

The two institutions are also exploring possible academic collaborations.  The UCA Vice-Chancellor Professor Elaine Thomas said: “Both the further and higher education sectors face challenging economic times and we want to build on the established and traditional strengths of both institutions to offer an enhanced programme of courses and improve the quality of student experience. The university remains committed to Maidstone and is growing its programme of courses delivered at, and in partnership with, Maidstone Studios.”

Stephen Grix, Principal and Chief Executive of MidKent College said: ‘’Both institutions have a proud educational tradition in Maidstone and we look forward to working with UCA in developing Oakwood Park as the major educational hub for the town and the surrounding area.

The proposals are at an early stage and the potential collaboration will now be discussed with staff and students from both institutions."
