07 November 2011
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today confirmed all the communities in the South East through which the Olympic Flame will be carried by Torchbearers during the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay which is presented by Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung.
The torch relay will arrive in Harrietsham on Thu 19 July and remain in Maidstone overnight until the following morning, 20 July. An evening celebration event is already planned and there will be other opportunities to showcase Maidstone's commercial, cultural and heritage assets. A new guide for local businesses has been prepared.
A list of the host communities in the South East and other highlights announced today are available to download from here along with Olympic Torch Relay images. An interactive map provides details of the communities through which the Olympic Flame will be carried.
Sebastian Coe, Chair of LOCOG, said: ‘I’m delighted that the Olympic Torch Relay will take the 2012 Games to almost every corner of the South East and that we have achieved our ambition to take the Flame to within an hour’s journey of 95% of the population. Now everyone is invited to plan their welcome and find out where they can go to be part of this historic occasion. The Olympic Games are coming to you as the Olympic Flame gives people across the South East their moment to shine.’
For businesses this provides a further opportunity to find their angle to maximise the benefits the Games will bring to the region. The new guide from London 2012 is packed full of advice for businesses and excellent links for where to find out more information.
