Dedicated to supporting the business community, the Maidstone Economic Development Group focusses on addressing issues important to its needs. Those important to local businesses range from being able to access sound advice to debating the economic benefits of going green. Other areas of interest are how the Economic Development Group can contribute effectively to the Local Strategic Partnership and the Kent International Gateway proposals. On the regional agenda, The Chamber is taking part in a pilot project entitled 'Safer Business Parks', which is being run across the south east and is funded by 'SEEDA' (South East Economic Development Agency). Jo James, Director of Membership Services said: "The aim of the project is to reduce crime on industrial estates and build a support network to better communicate estate activity. Kent Invicta has chosen Parkwood Industrial Estate to pilot the project, and to date over 40 businesses have taken part." Representatives from local businesses and the local authority meet regularly to develop policy that's relevant to Maidstone issues.
