The economic outlook is bright for Maidstone and the vision is clear... "a model 21st century county town, a distinctive place, known for its blend of sustainable rural and urban living, excellence in public services, dynamic service sector-based economy, and above all, quality of life" ...but there is work to be done. Harnessing the Borough's entrepreneurial spirit is key. So there are initiatives to ensure that more Maidstone companies benefit from business support services. In particular, Maidstone aims to attract and develop business specialisms such as the creative and media sector. The commitment to attract and retain investment and develop a culture of lifelong learning will shape the vision for the future. To underpin growth targets for housing and jobs, investment aimed at improving the transport infrastructure is also a high priority. Councillor Malcolm Greer, Cabinet Member for Regeneration said: "To shape this strategy Maidstone Borough Council is committed to creating a new economic partnership with businesses and responding to feedback. The challenges have been set and there is a firm commitment to work with local businesses to ensure that the targets set are realistic and sustainable."
